Overseen by the lone ‘Ferndene tree’,

Ferndene Quarries has a long history in the region. In 1876 the land was first farmed by the Marsh family. Since then, it has also been home to Ferndene Speedway and more recently Ferndene Quarries.

Our History

Named after the abundance of native ferns in the area, Ferndene has been in the Marsh family since 1876 and has been home to six generations of the Marsh family. At about the year 1955 Don Marsh, Russell’s grandad planted the lone ‘Ferndene Tree’ on a hill above the quarry and it has since become a much-photographed icon of the area. Initially the land was farmed by the Marsh family and in recent history it was home to Ferndene Speedway for about 25 years. In 2004 the quarry was established and has been run as a family business since 2013. Passionate about preserving the land for future generations, Ferndene Quarries has their own clean full dump site.
